The Optometrist will arrive with
what amounts to a portable testing room with basically all equipment
you would expect to find in a high street practice including
some state of the art portable diagnostic aids.
Having set the equipment up the Optometrist
will discuss:
Any concerns that the client may be having with their eyes
Any symptoms they are having
Their particular visual needs in relation to TV, hobbies, reading
etc
Having ascertained the clients needs and concerns
the Optometrist will ask more clinically orientated questions
such as:
Medication
Family ocular history
Personal ocular history
During the eye examination
itself the Optometrist will determine the general condition of
the clients eyes. A full range of tests and procedures
will be carried out which will include:
The examination of both the interior and
exterior of the eye and lids using relevant instrumentation
Checking the eye pressure
Where necessary checking the field of vision
The standard of vision both with without
and with any existing spectacles
Determining using a combination of instruments
and lenses whether an optical prescription is required
Assessing the way in which the eyes work
together will be
At the end of the examination the Optometrist will:
Explain the results and advise whether
or not a new or changed prescription is required and issue
a written copy
Guidance on lighting, Magnifiers and other
visual matters
Advise on appropriate Spectacles and lenses
Recommend when the next examination should
be
Answer any questions from the client, carers
or relatives
